sweater

Yep, that is just about all I have worked on. The three pieces to the front are done and now I have started the sleeve. I pinned the sweater together and it looks like it will fit. I have made a few adjustments to the sleeve fit and color I am running out of the blue yarn, so I decided to use it for the sleeve and will extend the white wool.

After spending a week dog sitting it was good to be home. Ollie was good, but I missed my cat.

Bob put together the bird house that Nathan and I bought at Rock City 5 years ago or more.

Dog Sitting

I'm spending the week at Amy's house watching their dog Ollie while they are on vacation.

SPINNING
Before I left I was spinning like crazy to finish the white mohair. I plied it on Friday and got 2 balls of yarn, and now I can continue on my sweater. Now that I am using my own hand spun yarn I noticed that it kinks up on it's self to much. I must be over spinning it or have to much spin in the ply. I went on you tube and found several videos on plying. I was lucky enough to find one that showed how to check if your yarn was balanced. Lets hope this yarn is better balanced.

SWEATER
The back of the sweater is finished! I think that it might be a little bigger than I wanted. I am also worried about running out of blue yarn. I might have to punt when I get to the sleeves.

I also started one of the front pieces. There are three, 2 sides and one middle piece.

CROSS STITCH
I have been working on the grey roofs on the cross stitch. I am getting use to the magnifier, it is making things much easier to see.

March spinning maddness

Well I'm obsessed with knitting my sweater. That being said I've had to change a few things. I made the white stripe 1 inch longer, so that I would use less of the blue. I was afraid of running out of the blue yarn.

Since I made that change I already knitted up my ball of white mohair and I am frantically spinning up more. One spool is done and I'm well into the second spool.

The Afghan is coming along, but I haven't knitted on it much.

The sock is progressing nicely. I'm still working on the foot. I think that this heel came out better than on the first sock. Practice makes perfect or in this case better.

Last Sunday Amy, Joe, and I went to Embellish to make a Celtic star chain mail pendent. All three came out great. Joe caught on faster than we did so we teased him that he can't come any more.

when crabs attack!

OK Daisy is not a crab nor is she crabby at least not right now. :-)

Interesting week,I managed to get a lot done. Spring is in the air, the crocuses are blooming ( croaking) or at least this little bunch is and the temperatures are slowly climbing. Daisy and I enjoy sitting in the sun socking up the warmth and the rays.

We went out to eat and while breaking open a crab leg it attacked back. I sliced my thumb on the shell, but that didn't stop me from eating it. I wrapped my bleeding thumb in my white cloth napkin and won the battle against the crab. Yum! So, that said I didn't do any cross stitching worth mentioning. I did buy a magnifier that sits on your chest to aid in seeing the stitches. Someone had mentioned that they used one all the time, so I wanted to try it out. I had trouble with it while sitting on the futon, maybe sitting in a chair will be better. I also did what I said I wouldn't do. I BOUGHT ANOTHER CROSS STITCH KIT! EEK!! It was a light house how could I resist. Like I said spring is in the air and thoughts of boating too.

SOCK LOOM
My sock is coming along very nicely. I've turned the heel and am working on the foot..I have decided that I didn't like the difference in cuff lengths so my fix will be to make two more socks to match the others. I bought another skein of matching sock yarn and should have more than enough for the extra socks.

STAMPING
I also bought some rubber Happy Birthday and presents stamps. I have a lot lot of cards with out a saying inside and this with make my personal touch little nicer.

The reason I went to the craft store in the first place was to buy size 11 knitting needles for my first sweater project. From the sweater book I have worked out my measurements out and have started my sweater. After knitting about 4 inches in length it was looking too big. I measured and it was over 3 inches to big! I even made a swatch to determined the stitch size, but I was off. I'm not discouraged being my first sweater from scratch I expected to make mistakes. I ripped every thing out and started over. I cast on 92 stitches and it is looking much better this time around. I have completed 5 1/2 inches.

I am hoping to make it striped using the wool blue beast, the blue and white mix, and the white I am working on now.

SPINNING WHEEL

On my wheel is a lovely 70% kid mohair / 30% Romney wool Mohair/Wool blend. I got it from the fall festival from someone in our guild and I love it. The fibers are long and very soft. I do have to be careful not to over twist it. This is going to be the white in my sweater and it is what I used in the blending of the two colors.

MORE KNITTING
I am working on the solid blue strip for the afghan. Not much else to say about that.

Last but not least if you haven't noticed I have been on a buying spree and I bought a pom pom maker. I have been making them by hand but that is a pain in the neck. It was cheep and I bought it.

Itchy, Pink, Watery Eyes

SPINNING

Not a lot got done this week with me having pink eye. I did manage to wind the rest of the blue wool into balls. I have 4 1/2 regular blue and one that I mixed with an off white. I really liked the way that one came out. I thinking that when I start the Brown beast I might ply all of it with the white. I like the tweed look it makes.

I have to say that I really like the ball winder that Bob got me. I have used it many times all over the house. The set up that I used this time was taking the wool right off the wheel. It's fast and easy to do.

KNITTING

I finished another stripe for the afghan. I also joined 2 together to see what it would look like. The next stripe that I will do is going to be solid blue.

LOOM

I've made some progress on my sock. I noticed a mistake that I will not worry about. The top cuff is longer than the other one. I guess I will make up the difference in the body of the sock.

Every spinner should have a cat. They make you smile. :-)
